Artist
Ivo Marès
Ivo Marès makes paintings of interiors, tables, harbors, and solitary figures, compressing coastal light into dense fields of color.
Marès’s paintings are marked by weight and restraint. Tables, windows, harbors, and seated bodies are reduced to blocks of color, roughened surfaces, and quiet spatial tension.
Practice
Marès works with layered pigment, compressed perspective, and simplified form. The compositions often begin with a domestic or coastal subject before settling into abstraction.
Recent works move between tables, windows, harbors, solitary bodies, and nonliteral arrangements of heavy color.
